Control of a sedimenting elliptical particle by electromagnetic forces

In this paper, the effectiveness of electromagnetic forces on controlling motion a sedimenting elliptical particle is investigated using immersed interface-lattice Boltzmann method (II-LBM) in which signed distance function adopted to apply jump conditions for II-LBM and add external forces. First, mechanisms control suppressing vorticity generation based equation vortex shedding streamwise momentum are discussed. Then, systematic investigations performed quantify qualify effects by changing strength, initial orientation angle particle, density ratio fluid. To demonstrate effect different cases, comparisons fields, trajectories, angles, energy transfers particles presented. The results show that rotational can be well controlled appropriate magnitudes relatively high solid fluid case where appears, sedimentation speed increase nearly 40% turns into steady descending once an magnitude force applied.
